Both sexes have white appendages, which are most obvious in the female. The female's S10 is also white. The male has a pale band on the thorax. Behaviour is like that of O. cancellatum. Males often sits on open ground near water, making very fast, low flights. It is mainly a species of south-eastern Europe but is also found in central and southern France. It is not present in Britain. Generally it prefers open ponds and lakes. The flight season is from mid-May to mid-September. Sightings
