Pratincoles & Coursers (Glareolidae)
These are small to medium-sized birds that fly on long, pointed wings. Coursers are long-legged, running birds of dry, semi-desert areas. Pratincoles are short-legged, predominantly aerial birds of dried-out marshes. While Coursers look and behave like plovers, Pratincoles look and behave like terns. Both groups are predominantly brown and merge well with the different landscapes they inhabit.
In Europe one species breeds, another is a regular passage migrant, and another is a vagrant.
