Damselflies (Coenagrionidae)
Species
Members of this family are commonly referred to as narrow-winged damselflies. The Coenagrionidae enjoy a world-wide distribution, and are among the most common of damselfly families. About 40 genera of the family Coenagrionidae are currently accepted. Twenty-one species occur in Europe.

  • Azure Damselfly: common and widespread, except in Scotland
  • Variable Damselfly: scarce and local in England and Wales
  • Common Blue Damselfly: common and widespread
  • Blue-tailed Damselfly: common and widespread
  • Scarce Blue-tailed Damselfly: rare and local in S England and Wales
  • Red-eyed Damselfly: locally common in England
  • Small Red-eyed Damselfly: widespread in southern, eastern and central England
