Description

Family: Crambidae (ABH : 63.074)

Wing span: 16 - 18mm

The fore-wing is whiteish, variably speckled darker, with whiteish cross-lines at one-third and four-fifths. There is a variably distinct black X-shape in the mid-wing. It is similar to Eudonia lacustrata.

It can be found throughout the British Isles.

Habitats are parks and gardens, grasslands, moorland, old quarries, scrub and woodland.

The flight period is from June to mid-October.

Larvae feed on mosses.

It is readily disturbed by day, and comes to light.
