Hawk-moths are impressive medium to large moths, often strikingly coloured, and include the biggest moths in Britain. They are known as hawk-moths because if their size and their fast, manoeuvrable flight. They tend to hold their wings close to the body at rest. Some hawk-moths don't feed, but others have long tongues and hover to take nectar from flowers.
