(© David Hastings) (1/200th sec at f/11) DescriptionFamily: Erebidae (ABH : 72.069) Wing span: 26 - 30mm This moth has a warm greyish-brown forewing, often tinted lilac. The tip is strongly hooked. It is found in most of England, as far north as Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, and the south of Wales. It is absent from Scotland and Ireland. Habitats are woodland, parkland, scrub, hedgerows, old orchards and mature gardens. There is usually one generation, from late June to early August. There is sometimes a second generation in the southern half of England. Larvae feed in lichens growing on broad-leaved and coniferous trees. It flies at dusk and comes to light.
