(© David Hastings) (1/250th sec at f/10) DescriptionFamily: Erebidae (ABH : 72.020) Wing span: 36 - 46mm The pattern of black dots on the white forewing of this moth, and at least one central black spot on the hindwing, are diagnostic in most cases. It can be found throughout the British Isles. Habitats include gardens, hedgerows, woodland and moorland. There is mainly one generation, from mid-May to late July. There can be a second brood in southern Britain in September/October. The pupa is the overwintering stage. Larvae feed on a wide range of herbaceous plants, including Common Nettle and docks.
