Description

This species has a unique resting posture. The wings are held horizontally, well away from the body, with the trailing edge of the hindwing and the tip of the abdomen curled upwards. The Spinach also rests in this way. Both species have straw-yellow forewings, but the Spinach has darker markings and chequered fringes.

It can be found throughout the British Isles.

Habitats include gardens, hedgerows, ditches, roadside verges, woodland rides, and scrubby grassland.

There is one generation from late May to late August/early September.

Larvae feed on cleavers and other bedstraws.

It flies from dusk, and comes to light.

Earliest UK sighting: 9th June ; Latest UK sighting: 30th July
