The two fairly straight silvery central cross-lines on the forewings, edged with brown, and the dark central spot are constant features. It can be found throughout the British Isles. Woodland, heathland and moorland are typical habitats, as these are where the larval foodplant grows. There is one generation per year, from mid-April to June. It over-winters as a pupa. The larvae eat Bracken. It comes to light, sometimes in numbers. It can easily be disturbed from bracken during the day. Earliest UK sighting: 27th May ; Latest UK sighting: 23rd June Sightings
