Description

Family: Geometridae (ABH : 70.277)

Wing span: 30 - 34mm

A white moth variably peppered with grey scales, and with three distinct silver-grey cross-lines on the fore-wing. The inner one is curved, especially at the leading edge, and the other two are fairly straight.

It can be found throughout the British Isles.

Habitats are woodland and scrub.

There is one protracted or two over-lapping generations from late May to early September. It over-winters as a pupa.

Larvae feed on Downy Birch, Silver Birch, Alder, Sweet Chestnut and sallows.

It flies mainly at dusk, but only comes to light in small numbers. It can be disturbed from vegetation during the day.
