Description

Family: Geometridae (ABH : 70.148)

Wing span: 16 - 20mm

This species is similar to the Slender Pug. Both are somewhat variable. The Maple Pug often appears more yellowish-brown, and has a rougher, more blotchy appearance. The fore-wing is narrower and the central dark spot is usually smaller.

It is predominantly found in England south of the Humber.

Habitats are woodland, scrub and hedgerows.

There is one generation in July and August. The egg is the over-wintering stage.

Larvae feed on Field Maple flowers.

It comes to light, sometimes in numbers. Can be readily disturbed from Maple leaves and trunks during the day.
