(© David Hastings) (Canon R6+RF100, f/9, 1/200th, ISO10000, 100mm) DescriptionFamily: Geometridae (ABH : 70.095) Wing span: 28 - 34mm This moth has reddish-brown marbling on a green fore-wing, often comprising streaks radiating from the base. This may be absent or much reduced, especially in the female. There is usually a distinct white or pale blotch on the wing leading edge after the central band. The female is generally a slightly darker, richer green, and slightly larger than the male. It can be found in most parts of the British Isles. It has increased in range and numbers in southern England since the 1980s. Habitats are broad-leaved woodland, wooded hedgerows and gardens. There is one generation per year. Adults are on the wing from September to November, and females only from March to May after hibernation. Larvae feed on various broad-leaved trees, including oaks, Blackthorn, Apple, cherries, Dog-rose and Rowan. Possibly also birches and Ash. It comes to light, and feeds at Ivy flowers and sallow catkins. Earliest UK sighting: 24th September ; Latest UK sighting: 5th November Sightings
