(© David Hastings) (Canon R6+RF100, f/11, 1/200th, ISO2500, 100mm) DescriptionFamily: Geometridae (ABH : 70.254) Wing span: 34 - 42mm The male has a warm golden orange-yellow forewing with two distinct cross-lines, often a central spot and with variable greyish-brown edging, blotches and freckling. The female is flightless. It can be found throughout the British Isles, but is local in Ireland. It is most abundant in open broad-leaved woodland with mature trees. There is one generation, from October to December. It over-winters as an egg. Larvae feed on broad-leaved trees and shrubs, including birches, elms and sallows. Males come to light.
