(© David Hastings) (1/200th sec at f/8) DescriptionFamily: Geometridae (ABH : 70.208) Wing span: 24 - 28mm The blackish basal patch and the broad black outer cross-band giving a burnt or scorched effect on the creamy white forewing, make this moth unmistakable. It is fairly frequent in England north to the Wash and West Midlands. It is local in Wales and further north in Lancs and Yorkshire. Habitats are broad-leaved woodland, scrub, hedgerows and gardens. There are probably two over-lapping generations from April to early September. It over-winters as a pupa. Larvae feed on Spindle. It flies from dusk and comes to light, usually in small numbers.
