The forewing is light grey or tawny brown, with a distinct darker cross-band. There is usually a dark streak at the wingtip. It is found throughout the British Isles. Typical habitats are open grassy spaces. The flight period is late June to August. It overwinters as a larva. Larvae feed on clovers and vetches. It is easily disturbed by day from low vegetation. It can be found feeding on flowers at dusk. Earliest UK sighting: 7th July ; Latest UK sighting: 24th August Sightings
