(© David Hastings) (1/200th sec at f13) DescriptionFamily: Geometridae (ABH : 70.012) Wing span: 20 - 22mm This moth has a dark brown outer cross-band on an otherwise rather plain straw-white fore-wing, more or less forming three blackish-brown blotches. There is usually a dark streak from the base of the leading edge, and a distinctly dark central dot on both wings. It is local in southern England, but not extending into Devon, Cornwall or most of Wales. It is most frequent in woodland rides and edges, also hedgerows and chalk downland. There are two generations per year, from late May to July, and a smaller one from July to late September. It over-winters as a larva. Larvae feed on withered and dead leaves of Ivy. It flies from dusk and comes to light. Earliest UK sighting: 30th May ; Latest UK sighting: 25th June Sightings
