Description

Family: Hesperiidae

Wing span: 26 - 28 mm

The Carline Skipper is brown with white spots on the forewing upperside, one of which is c-shaped. The hindwing upperside is poorly marked. The hindwing underside is reddish-brown with a white patch on the outer margin.

It is endemic to Europe, only being found in Switzerland and border districts of France and Italy.

Typical habitats are meadows, woodland clearings and south-facing slopes between 600 and 2500m.

There is one brood per year in July and August.

Larvae feed on various cinquefoils (Potentilla spp.).
