Description

Family: Noctuidae (ABH : 73.298)

Wing span: 30 - 36mm

A thickset moth which has a broad, rather plain forewing, which is pinkish-brown or a dull sandy grey. It has a small elliptical whiteish mark at the trailing end of the kidney mark.

It can be found in most of the UK, but is scarce in western and northern Scotland, and the north of Ireland.

It occupies a range of open habitats, including gardens and wetlands.

There is one generation, from late June to early August. The larva is the over-wintering stage.

Larvae feed on grasses, especially Cock's-foot and meadow-grasses.

It comes to light and sugar, and feeds at flowers.
