(1/250th sec at f11. © David Hastings) DescriptionFamily: Noctuidae Wing span: 34 - 38mm This species is distinguished by its light grey fore-wing, which has a black curved antler-like mark at its base. It has a central thoracic crest. It is well distributed in the southern half of Britain. It is widespread but local in Ireland, and absent from Scotland. Habitats are broad-leaved woodland and parkland. There is one generation from September to November. The adults hibernate and re-appear in February to April. Larvae feed on Pedunculate Oak and probably Sessile Oak. It comes to light and sugar. It feeds at Ivy flowers and overripe blackberries in the autumn, and sallow catkins in the spring. Sightings
