(© David Hastings) (1/200th sec at f/11) DescriptionFamily: Noctuidae (ABH : 73.217) Wing span: 26 - 32mm This moth has a half-moon shaped marking near the fore-wing tip. This is frequently marked with pink and mauve as well as much white. The fore-wing is deep brownish pink and has a curved leading edge. It is well distributed in southern, central and eastern England, and the south Midlands, but largely absent from SW England, northern England, Wales and Scotland. Habitats are hedgerows, scrub, woodland, parks and occasionally gardens. There is one generation from early July to late August. It over-winters as an egg. Larvae feed on Blackthorn, hawthorns, Apple, Bullace and elms. It comes to light and sugar. Earliest UK sighting: 26th June ; Latest UK sighting: 5th July Sightings
