(© David Hastings) (Canon R6+RF100, f/10, 1/200th, ISO 1000, 100mm) DescriptionFamily: Noctuidae (ABH : 73.040) Wing span: 32 - 42mm The fine, rather sparse black markings on this moth's quite pointed, grey-dusted or white forewing are diagnostic. It can be found in most of the British Isles, but is rather local in northern Scotland. Habitats are broad-leaved woodland, heathland, moorland, fens, and increasingly in urban areas. There is one generation from late May to early August. It over-winters as a pupa in rotten wood. Larvae feed on birches, Alder, Grey Willow, Aspen, poplars and oaks.
