(© David Hastings) (1/200th sec at f/11) Description Family: Noctuidae (ABH : 73.095) Wing span: 24 - 30mm This a rather slim moth, with a brownish-grey fore-wing, and three or four small black dots along the leading edge. The kidney mark is usually edged with small white spots. It is common in England and Wales, scarce and local in Scotland, and local in Ireland. Habitats are grasslands, farmland and gardens. There are two generations, mainly May to July and late August to October. Immigrants may appear from February to November. Larvae feed on grass seeds, both growing and stored after harvest. It comes to light, sugar and flowers.
