Description

Family: Noctuidae (ABH : 73.358)

Wing span: 30 - 34mm

The dark veins, fine dark cross-lines and dark-outlined oval and kidney mark are diagnostic.The fore-wing is light brown to warm dark brown.

It can be found throughout the British Isles.

Habitats are wet meadows, marshes, fens and damp woodland, as well as drier places such as hedgerows and gardens.

There is one generation, from late July to early September. It over-winters as a larva.

Larvae feed on Hedge Bedstraw, Ribwort Plaintain, Bramble, Bluebell and Water Figwort (and probably other plants).

It comes frequently to light, and also to sugar and flowers (notably ragworts).
