Skuas (Stercorariidae)
Species
Skuas are medium-sized gull-like birds that can be confused with immature gulls, but they fly with the power and agility of falcons. They are robustly built, with powerful bills, and long, pointed wings. Their legs are short, and their feet are fully webbed. They are pirates that pursue other seabirds and force them to drop or disgorge their food.

There are five or six species worldwide, which are largely confined to Arctic and Antarctic regions. Three species breed in Europe and one is a passage migrant.
